Closing 2023, the supporting industry is facing unprecedented difficulties due to a sharp decline in orders. Even the country’s largest locomotive, Thaco Group, has seen a 20% decrease in revenue.
The production and business results of the supporting industry, mechanical engineering and automobile manufacturing are unprecedentedly gloomy. Sharing this situation at the Ministry of Industry and Trade’s summary conference on December 20, Mr. Pham Van Tai, General Director of Thaco Group, said that in 2023, the group’s automobile sales reached more than 96,500 vehicles of all kinds, down 25% compared to 2022 (Including: more than 80,000 passenger cars; nearly 15,000 trucks and 1,500 buses, mini buses); accounting for 36% of the domestic automobile market share. Exporting more than 2,500 vehicles, revenue reached more than 10 million USD;
Sharing about this issue, Mr. Phan Dang Tuat, Chairman of the Vietnam Association of Supporting Industries, also said: The supporting industry has about 1,500 enterprises, mainly operating in the fields of mechanics, electricity and electronics, plastics, rubber and chemicals… but last year the health of enterprises “declined quite seriously”. It is estimated that the average revenue of the supporting industry decreased by 40%.
To solve and develop, Mr. Pham Van Tai recommended that the Ministry of Industry and Trade soon complete and submit to the Government and the National Assembly Standing Committee to add the Law on Key Industries to the 2024 Law-making Program for submission to the National Assembly for approval, creating a legal corridor, truly attracting enterprises to invest, develop industrial production, promote the construction of an autonomous industry, contributing to the cause of industrialization and modernization of the country.
“Propose that the Ministry of Industry and Trade recommend to the Government policies to support and minimize risks for leading enterprises to link small and medium enterprises to develop the country’s Mechanical Engineering & Supporting Industry”,
