Toyota Motor Vietnam (TMV) was established in September 1995, is one of the first automobile joint venture companies in the Vietnamese market. Since entering Vietnam, TMV has always made efforts to contribute to Vietnam automobile industry by Vietnam Government’s direction, in which increasing localization rate is always a top priority of company’s long-term development. Up to now, TMV has 38 local suppliers, including 5 pure Vietnamese suppliers to localize about 700 auto parts.
At the beginning, TMV persuaded Japanese parts manufacturing companies to invest in Vietnam. From 2004 until now, these manufacturers supply not only to TMV and domestic enterprises but also to other countries with a total export turnover of more than US $ 565 million (as of June 2020). In addition, in 2003 investing in a body stamping workshop made TMV to be the first automobile manufacturer to complete all 5 stages of stamping, welding, painting, assembling, and inspection.
Especially since 2018, TMV have established a dedicated division to support local suppliers with priority in pure Vietnamese supplier, help them to improve their production management capacity, thereby increasing labor efficiency to reduce costs and improve product quality. This program has been paid special attention by TMV and evaluated as a prerequisite for increasing the localization rate of TMV in particular and contributing to Vietnam Automobile Industry in general. We hope that the local suppliers will continuously improve their capacity, and further participate in the regional and global part supply chain.
